Linfield manager David Healy has praised his squad's collective spirit following a fifth consecutive Premiership victory that has lifted the club to second in the table. The Blues' 1-0 win at Dungannon Swifts on Saturday, secured by Kirk McClean's 82nd-minute goal, extended a perfect run of league form since an opening-day defeat. The team has now accumulated 15 points from a possible 18, averaging 2.5 points per game.
Healy, speaking via the club's media channel, highlighted the character shown by a group dealing with several injuries. "We are lighter in numbers which everyone knows," he said. "And I know supporters want to know about injuries and who is back when." The manager confirmed Darragh Leahy remains sidelined with a serious issue, while Jamie Mulgrew is progressing but without a set return date. Ryan Nolan and Matthew Fitzpatrick, who missed the Dungannon trip, are both expected back soon.
Building momentum
This run of five wins has propelled Linfield to 15 points from six games, just one point behind leaders Coleraine. The sequence includes narrow victories over Carrick Rangers, Cliftonville, and Glentoran.
A tricky trip ahead
Attention now turns to Tuesday night's trip to face a struggling Portadown side at Shamrock Park. The hosts have lost all six of their league matches this season and are yet to register a point. Healy is wary, however, recalling past setbacks at the venue. "It's a tough venue," he said. "You're sort of hoping that they have already picked up a point or points before you go down there because you don't want to be that first team." Linfield lost at Shamrock Park last season, a result the manager will be keen to avoid repeating as his side looks to maintain pressure at the top. The current standings show Linfield firmly in the title conversation. The team's next fixture is away against Portadown on Tuesday, October 8th.
With key players nearing returns, Healy's options are set to increase. The immediate focus is on securing a sixth straight win against Portadown before a significant home clash with third-placed Cliftonville in December.
